php|tek 2009 Unconference

Well, we're just about two weeks from php|tek 2009. While many of the presenters are touching up their slides, brushing up their talks, and thinking of the pizza that's yet to come… I have a different question for you:

What are you doing?

As of today, I'm officially collecting ideas for the php|tek unconference.  As I get ideas (I already have quite a few), I'll post them on Chris Cornutt 's site Joind.in under the php|tek Unconference event.  Then all you have to do is register on the site, vote for the session, and feel free to leave feedback.

What's an UnConference you ask?

Have you heard of BarCamp? How about PodCamp? They're all UnConfs. The point of an UnConf is to get rid of the structure and provide an event that is almost entirely community-driven, focused on interesting topics of the moment, and engages everyone at whatever level they can. Normally, people kick around presentation ideas, they get voted on day of the UnConf, a bit of chaos ensues, and a schedule pops out the other end. That means you don't necessarily know who will be there or what the topics will be. But that's where we're a little different… since we're attached to php|tek, we know who will be there and we will begin choosing some of the topics in advance. Keep an eye out for updates, pitches, and ideas.

So here is your todo list:

  1. (Optional) Think of an idea and send it to me.  You can reach me via email (keith@blueparabola.com), Twitter or any other way that seems appropriate.  As I get them, I'll post them on Joind.in
  2. Register on Joind.in and vote for the sessions that sound the best
  3. Spread the word and encourage others to vote!
  4. Keep an eye out for which sessions get picked
  5. Show up for php|tek 2009

Pretty simple, huh?
