BarCampDC2 - Planning & Discussion

Well, it's about that time of the year... the fall conference season is underway.  We have ZendCon/ZendUnCon (more about that on Monday), but for DC Locals, we have something even more fun:

BarCampDC2

BarCampDC is the event that brought much of the DC Tech Scene together last year.  All the pieces and people were around but we weren't connected... this brought many of them - or people from the various groups - together in one place.  It led to a number of major projects kicking off, some ideas dying and even bigger things being dreamt of.

So here's the only problem.  We're still trying to settle on a date, but we have it narrowed down to three:  27 September, 04 October, or 18 October... and the final date will depend wholly on the venue.

That's where you come in.  We're reaching out to different venues trying to get them on board.  The *ideal* space has a number of individual rooms (seating 40-50 each), a big common space for kickoff and lunch, and all the rooms are located closely together.  PodCampDC was not the best space, SocialDevCamp East was great.

Once we have the venue and the date... the RSVP's will open... and they're going to move fast.  If you want to stay in the loop, keep an eye on the Grand Poobah Justin Thorp and the BarCampDC2 wiki page.

Ruby DCamp in early October

We don't have a venue yet but I expect that there would be a lot of overlap in our attendees. Can we coordinate so as not to overlap dates? We're fairly likely to go with 10/4-5 but we're not 100% certain on our date yet.

Missed that one

Evan, thanks for the note. I looked through your mailing list and it looks like the second weekend is your leading candidate, which we ruled out for other reasons. If that is still your first choice and Sept 27th is our first choice, then there might not be a problem at all.

Regardless, get in touch with Justin Thorp so we can start to coordinate. You guys need to start pushing on PR anyway if you're going to pull in 200 Ruby guys locally.
