While I seem to be talking more and more about conferences lately, this next one is near and dear to my heart… PHP Appalachia.
PHP Appalachia originally came about a few years back because… well, I'm not sure, but I've heard (I wasn't there) that it resulted in a bunch of PHP geeks sitting around a camp fire, a bit hacking away a bit during the day, and generallly building the community that PHP is known for.
This time around, it's gone a bit differently. A conversation started and one of the champions of phpWomen – Elizabeth Naramore – stepped forward to led the effort. In no time at all, she found a huge cabin – since nicknamed "The Beast" and recruited some of the best and brightest people out there. Off the top of my head, we'll have Joe LeBlanc, Ben Ramsey, Chris Shiflett, Cal Evans, Paul Reinheimer, Brandon Savage, and lots more people I'm going to get in trouble for not naming.
Although many of us are still recovering from the chaos that was ZendCon08 and preparing for php|works 08, this is going to be a great opportunity to spend some time in a more low key atmosphere and see some of the nifty things we're each working on… and maybe some announcements.
T-48 hours and counting…
