For those who don't know, I am a huge dotProject advocate* and despite a recent hiatus am incredibly active on their forums. As a result of my recent speaking tour and actively reaching out to speak to other dotProject users, I've found a multitude of interesting uses, customizations, and hacks that some sharp people have written and sometimes even made available.
Most people are using dotProject as a standard task tracking tool. While this is relatively unexciting, the areas where it has penetrated are definitely exciting. I have found a handful of US government groups, development groups within major government contractors, quite a few non-profits ranging from a handful to hundreds of users, numerous software development companies, a few educational institutions, and – most exciting of all – a *large* financial institution is currently evaluating it.
It's my continued goal to track down people using dotProject and determine what strengths and weaknesses. If you are a dotProject user, please drop me a note.
